Scattering Mueller Matrix: Basis for Experimental Design©

Abstract

Presented in this report is a basic discussion of the representation of polarized radiation by the Mueller calculus (including a discussion of the Stokes vector). The Mueller calculus was selected as the only choice as the basis for the experimental set-up. Further two experimental methods are presented. Based on the direct comparison of the two methods (I. calculate Mueller matrix components first, then the Stokes vectors and 2. calculate the Stokes vectors first then the Mueller matrix components) number 2 was selected as the most expedient and straight forward.
