Process Parameters Study for Net-shape Steel Casting
Abstract
The objective of this research was the experimental study and computational modeling of process parameters of a net-shape steel casting process. Burst pressure (pressurized water), mechanical and physical properties at room and high temperatures for ceramic shells were evaluated. the experimental data was used to simulate stresses in the ceramic shell, mold filling, and solidification using ABAQUS, FLUENT, and MAGMA software. Models were verified by pouring steel into ceramic shell molds and monitoring with electrical sensors and thermocouples connected to a high-speed DAQ. the results will be used for the optimization of an industrial process.
