Production of Ultra Low Carbon If Steels by RH-TOP Process
Abstract
Initial conditions of molten steel, vacuum evacuation modes, argon gas injection mode and the scheme of the addition of the cold scraps all have significant effect on the decarburization rate and ability during RH-TOP process. based on the industrial trials, the RH-TOP process has been optimized in order to get a quick decarburization and achieve low carbon content in the steel. the mean carbon content after 10 minutes RH treatment is ∼10ppm. a mathematical model for the decarburization of the steel during RH treatment is developed considering lots of affecting factors such as argon flow rate, vacuum evacuation mode. the calculation agrees well with the measurement if the decarburization constant kc and the energy dissipation rate ε follow the relationship of kC∝ε1.5..
