Coarsening of BaCeO3 and Y2BaCuO5 Particles in YBa2Cu3O7-X Semisolid Melt
Abstract
In an attempt to enhance the critical current density in melt textured YBa 2Cu 3O 7-x (Y123), coarsening behavior of non-superconducting inclusions in the semisolid melt of YBa 2Cu 3O 7-x was investigated. Coarsening behavior of BaCeO 3 was compared with that of Y 2BaCuO 5 (Y211) particles above the peritectic decomposition temperature as a function of time. Microstructural characterization of the quenched samples revealed a significant coarsening of Y211 phase, while the size of BaCeO 3 particles remained in the sub-micrometer range.
