Coarsening of BaCeO₃ and Y₂BaCuO₅ Particles in YBa₂Cu₃O₇₋ₓ Semisolid Melt
Abstract
In an attempt to enhance the critical current density in melt textured YBa2Cu3O7-x (Y123), coarsening behavior of non-superconducting inclusions in the semisolid melt of YBa2Cu 3O7-x was investigated. Coarsening behavior of BaCeO 3 was compared with that of Y2BaCuO5 (Y211) particles above the peritectic decomposition temperature as a function of time. Microstructural characterization of the quenched samples revealed a significant coarsening of Y211 phase, while the size of BaCeO3 particles remained in the sub-micrometer range.
