Abstract
"This investigation has been made to determine the residual stresses in thick wall cylinders by the use of strain gages.
The cylinders were quenched from their outer surface i n water from a temperature of 1000°F, and the resulting residual stresses were determined by Sachs boring-out method. The effect of the wall thickness of the cylinders on the residual stresses and the error developed due to the boring operation were discussed"--Abstract, p. ii
