Abstract
"The purpose of this investigation was to experimentally verify the theoretical prediction that the particle velocity of a head wave is the time integral of the particle velocity of a direct wave.
The procedure was to use small explosions in the field to generate direct waves and head waves in a surface layer of low compressional velocity overlying a higher velocity medium. The direct waves were distinguished by the ratio of frequencies and by the slopes in a time distance plot.
The result of comparing the particle velocity of the head waves with the integral of the particle velocity of the direct waves gave satisfactory agreement with theory in only one case"-- Abstract, p. ii
