Abstract

"The LAMP process enables building of 3-D parts directly from CAD model, eliminating the intermediate step of dye/mould preparation. The dimensional accuracy of the built part depends on the accuracy of the clad width and clad height. Influence of the important process parameters, namely laser power, powder feed rate, laser traverse speed, directing gas pressure, shielding gas pressure, nozzle stand off distance, on process characteristics i.e. clad height, clad width and hardness are studied and microstructure is analyzed. Trend of influence and percentage influence of each parameter are presented to better understand the process. Taguchi L-8 orthogonal array is used for designing experiments. Interactions between factors are considered. Effect of specific energy and build rate on the process parameters are discussed--Abstract, page iv.
