Evaluation of Parallel Algorithm for DPCM Decoding of Images using Index Decoupling
Abstract
DPCM (differential pulse code modulation) technique for compression and decompression of images offers the advantages computational simplicity, fairly high compression ratio and good quality of image reconstruction. Although fast coding and decoding of images is desirable, fast and real-time decoding is critical in many applications. This paper presents the results of evaluation of a parallel D P C M decoding algorithm proposed in [6]. This uses a technique called index decoupling which decomposes a 2-dimensional recurrence relation into a combination of two independent 1-dimensional recurrence relations.
