TV-CONMAN: A System for the Management of Broadcast TV Content
Abstract
Broadcast television programs have pre-determined starting times and durations. Often the broadcast times do not match the preferred viewing times of most people. Also several programs of interest might be on different channels with overlapping times. In addition, viewers are physically restricted to where the signals are received and presented on the TV sets. To alleviate these rigid viewing situations, this paper proposes a system which enables users (subscribers) to view many of the TV programs of their interest, at times and locations convenient to them. This paper discusses the architecture and issues in the design and implementation of such a system. The proposed system promises new paradigms in personal entertainment and also in the dissemination and consumption of information in several areas.
