Cost Effective Power Package Handles up to 3 HP Motor Drives
Abstract
VersaPower, a new electronic package, offers flexibility of assembling and mounting of discrete power components for motor drivers up to a three horse power (3 HP) rating. The key element of the construction of the VersaPower module is the flexibility of using an insulated metal substrate (IMS) baseplate. The new electronic package allows heat sinking capabilities and high voltage isolation with the use of aluminum and copper substrates and polymer dielectric layers. The electronic package also provides temperature sensing with a sensor internal to the hybrid power module. It permits extension of power dissipation to extend the range of five horse power with only slight modifications.
