Abstract
Data mining aims to make sense of data by revealing meaningful relationships. This paper discusses data mining techniques applied to data recorded by over current relays at several substations. The purpose is to classify faults, verify relay settings and determine fault induced trip per substations. One of the most demanding tasks at hand is to study the data residing in the relays on a statistical basis. C4.5 approach of data mining (decision tree induction) is discussed in this paper.
