Residential Demand For Fuelwood

Abstract

This is the first national microbased study of residential demand for wood as fuel. The data are from the US Department of Energy Residential Energy Consumption Survey. The model employs a somewhat unique interaction dummy for price that allows the simultaneity problem to be adjusted for in a 2SLS format and then the interaction term to be calculated and entered in the second stage. Results are compared with elasticity estimates derived from the same data set for the four other main residential fuels. Wood has a price elasticity of -0.421 for main users. © 1985.
