Abstract
Data warehousing and on-line analytical processing (OLAP) are essential elements of decision support, which has increasingly become a focus of the database industry. Data warehouses support business decisions by collecting, consolidating, and organizing data for reporting and analysis with tools such as online analytical processing (OLAP) and data mining. In this paper address approaches and choices to be considered when designing and implementing a data warehouse. The paper begins by contrasting data warehouse databases with OLTP databases, introducing OLAP and then adds information about design issues.
