Shear Behavior of Coped Web Elements of Cold-Formed Steel C-Sections
Abstract
The web shear strength, web crippling strength and adequate stiffener requirements for a cold-formed steel C-section with a cope, were investigated. The test setup consisted of placing coped C-sections side by side at a spacing of about 6 in. apart, interconnected by 3/4 x3/4x1/8 inch aluminum angles and self-drilling screws. To provide additional support for the 6 and 8 deep connections, two diagnal were connected to the angles. It was found that the shear stregth of the beam web was influenced by two cope parameters such as the cope length-to-overall depth of web ratio and the ratio of cope to overall depth of the web.
