A Mössbauer Effect Study of the Manganese-rich Y₆(Fe₁₋ₓMnₓ)₂₃ Compounds
Abstract
A Mössbauer effect spectral study of Y6[Fe0.1Mn0.9]23 and Y6[Fe0.2Mn0.8]23 indicated no internal hyperfine field and hence no spontaneous long-range magnetic ordering at temperatures from 300- 1.5 K. The same result was obtained at 4.2 K in applied magnetic fields of up to 6 T. The maximum possible spontaneous magnetic moment on the iron is less than 0.03 μβ. The absence of spontaneous ordering is a result of the disruption of manganese-manganese interactions by the iron.
