Aerogels In The 2020s And Beyond
Abstract
Aerogels comprise the epitome of nanostructured matter in 3D and have been at the center of nanotechnology long before the term "nanotechnology" even existed. Since their invention, about 90 years ago, there have been periods in which academic research was spearheading development, when others' focus was placed on applications, while others were rather dormant. Now, it is the winter of 2020, and as this volume is being completed, the globe population has been tested by the COVID-19 pandemic for almost a year already. Despite this difficult time, it has been encouraging to see aerogels as vibrant and as active as ever, attesting to the enthusiasm and optimism of our community.
