Bachelors Theses
Abstract
"Commercial brands of fireclay brick will be tested with both the American Society for Testing Materials and the Federal Specifications Spall Tests in order to determine whether the two tests are consistent in the indication of resistance to spalling. It is suggested that the properties of a refractory affecting thermal spalling are reversible thermal expansion, elasticity, heat transfer, plastic flow, and strength. It is hoped that it will be possible to explain the discrepancies that may arise in the results of this work in terms of the above physical properties or else find a reasonable agreement between the two tests"--Introduction, pages 3-4.
