Interactions of Circular Rydberg Atoms with Charged Particles
Abstract
We report electron capture from oriented circular Rydberg atoms by protons and positrons at speeds comparable to the electron orbital speed. We find orientation dependent, novel peak structures for both protons and positrons in the angular scattering of the particles. The structures may be understood in terms of quasi Thomas double scattering mechanism for capture. Other related aspects including final state population and orientation induced scattering asymmetry will also be discussed. © 1995.
