The Lifetime And Effective Quenching Cross Section Of The 6²P[formula Presented] State Of Thallium
Abstract
The lifetime of the 62P[formula presented] metastable state of thallium has been measured at 15 different thallium densities and temperatures in the after-glow of a pulsed r-f discharge. The effective self-quenching cross section for the 62P[formula presented]-62P[formula presented] transition is 5·4±0·5 x 10-16 cm2, and the diffusion cross section for the 62P[formula presented] state is 100±30 x 10-16 cm2.
