Coal Mining in China: An Overview of Surface Mining Operations
Abstract
The article discusses the surface coal mining industry in China in 2011. The coal boom in China is partly attributed to the increased growth in steel making and the closure of more than 13,000 small and unsafe coal mines from 2005 to 2009. Majority of the surface minable coal reserves in the country are found in eastern Inner Mongolia. Among the large-scale surface coal mines in China are Antaibao surface mine and Haerwusu surface mine.
