Recent Advances in Water Jet Coalmining
Abstract
The use of high pressure water for excavating coal and other rock materials is rapidly becoming of greater interest to the mining industry as the potential advantages to its use become apparent. This interest has become evident in several ways. More articles are appearing in the technical literature describing current operations, mining equipment manufacturers are initiating their own development programs and, in the U. S. , both the Department of Energy and the Bureau of Mines are in process of funding evaluation studies for underground hydraulic mining. This article updates recent reviews on the state of this mining technology.
