Uptake of Australian Student Mineral Venture Students into Mining Related University Courses
Abstract
An increasing number of students are getting enrolled in the AusIMM Education Endowment Fund Australian Student Mineral Venture (ASMV) scheme. The ASMV has organized around 10-12 day summer schools for high school students between ages 10, 11, and 12. Student Destination Survey questionnaires have been sent to students, who had attended Regional Ventures and are expected to be completing a first undergraduate degree. A number of students have also enrolled in non-mining courses. Some of the issues that are influencing students enrolling in other courses, include the closure of a number of mining or metallurgy university departments and the relaxation in the statutory link between the mining engineering courses and the mine managers certificates.
