Australian Student Mineral Recent Ventures
Abstract
The activities presented to the students attending the Western Venture in July 2007 and the Southern and Eastern Ventures in January 2007 as a part of the Australian Student Mineral Venture (ASMV) program of activities are presented. An annual investment of $120,000 is made in the Australian Student Mineral Ventures by The AusIMM Education Endowment Fund. The 12-day itinerary provided an overview of many aspects of mining industry through trips at Sovereign Hill and Lihir's Ballarat Goldfields and Perseverance Stawell Gold Mine. The students also traveled to Cradle Mountain National Park, Zinifex Rosebery zinc and lead mine, and CMT's Mt Lyell copper mine in Queenstown. The venture program concluded in Hobart with visits to Nystar Zinc smelter and the University of Tasmania's Center of Excellence in Ore Deposits (CODES).
