Orthogonal Turning with High Pressure Water Jet Assistance
Abstract
This paper presents the results of an investigation into the effectiveness of cooling the tool/chip interface by the injection of a high pressure water jet. The emphasis of this article is on comparing the coefficient of friction at the tool/chip interface for both conventional and high pressure injection systems. Resulting changes in cutting force, chip shape and temperature are also reported.
