Current Hydraulic Drilling Performances
Abstract
The advantages and disadvantages of hydraulic over pneumatic systems in drilling are considered. User experience shows a reduction of maintenance cost and of ancillary expenses when changing from pneumatic to hydraulic rock drills, combined with a rise in productivity. Difficulties have been encountered, for example by inadequate water supply, which creates a risk of drill steels getting stuck in the hole when drilling fast. Drilling bit difficulties disappear when the hydraulic rock drill is well adapted to the rock conditions.
