Fault Propagation and Sensitivity Analysis to Support Counterterrorism Activities
Abstract
This paper discusses research on fault propagation analysis and two associated fault sensitivity measurement approaches for the investigation of faults in human-centric processes. the techniques presented grew out of a joint project between the U.S. Air Force Academy and Missouri University of Science and Technology to investigate terrorist activities involving improvised explosive devices. Two potential counterterrorism activities related to improvised explosive devices are developed through the paper to demonstrate the application and usefulness of the methodologies. Provided with the examples is a discussion of fault propagation, the sensitivity analysis performed, an interpretation of the results, and an overview of anticipated future applications in system design. © 2009 by Robert L.
