The Variable Structure Control of Structural Vibration with SMA
Abstract
The use of the shape memory alloy Nitinol wire is investigated as an actuator for enhancing the damping in structural vibration system. The experimental results of SMA are presented. On the base of the experimental results, a refined SMA wire model is suggested. A variable structure control approach, as well as the classical control laws are applied to the flexible structure system in cooperated with SMA. The simulation results reveal that VSC system is more effective and desirable in a vibration control with SMA than another control algorithm if VSC is applied in the proper sense to a vibrating structure.
