Transverse Matrix Cracking in a Sandwich Beam with Cross-Ply Facings Subject to a Uniform Pressure
Abstract
An approach to the estimate of transverse matrix cracking and degradation of the stiffness of sandwich beams with cross-ply facings is presented. Using this approach, it is shown that initial transverse cracking limited to a part of the span does not result in a noticeable degradation of the stiffness and probably may be disregarded, with a possible exception of fatigue problems.
