Underwater Stabilization of a Gas-Filled Membrane Shell
Abstract
This paper is concerned with the stabilization, by liquid ballast, of a closed axisymmetric membrane, which is inflated by a gas, and submerged to various depths. The solution to this problem has several applications in ocean technology. The results are applicable to the design of components of buoyancy-controlled lift devices, off-shore structures for the study of air-sea interactions, off-shore gas storage tanks, and to the construction of residue platforms.
