Development of an Advisory Expert System for Elastic Mechanism Design
Abstract
The design and analysis of high-speed mechanisms is a complex, iterative process requiring a high level of expertise and engineering intuition. Efficient finite element analysis, analysis validation, and preliminary synthesis techniques are the bottlenecks in the process. All these phases of the design process are thus prime candidates for automation. In order to help automate such complex systems, a prototype advisory expert system for finite element analysis and optimal design of flexible mechanisms was developed. The development of this system and the related backgroud are presented in this paper.
