Corrections Based on Two-Dimensional Fin Analysis of Tip Conditions
Abstract
The errors based on a two-dimensional analysis of a straight rectangular and of an annular fin of uniform thickness were studied. The error in the tip temperature is very large for large Biot number. The two-dimensional heat transfer correction is very large for small Biot number, whereas the temperature correction is not. The results indicate that a one-dimensional assumption is highly justified for low Biot number of up to 0.2 in terms of the heat transfer from the fin.
