Wing Tip Vortex System in a Starting Flow

Abstract

The vortex system of a rectangular wing tip is visualized in a starting flow of constant acceleration. The system consists of a pair of vortices: one is fed from pressure side vorticity, the other from suction side vorticity. The vortices connect to each other at the corner between leading edge and tip.
