Abstract
This paper presents a numerical solution to a two-dimensional laminar mixed convection flow in a vertical channel with a backward-facing step. The work is done in response to a technical session for a benchmark problem at the 1993 ASME Winter Annual Meeting. The backward-facing step wall and the wall upstream of the step are treated as adiabatic surfaces. The wall downstream from the step is heated and maintained at a uniform temperature, while the other straight wall of the channel is maintained at a uniform temperature equal to the inlet flow temperature. A modified TEACH code is used to generate the desired results for the benchmark problem.
