Abstract
This paper deals with the gasification of whole rice hulls in a 0. 15-m (6-in) fluidized bed gasifier. The fluidization characteristics of the multi-solid bed are described, including the results based on the data collected at steady state. The system was designed and operated with whole rice hulls (10% moisture) at 3. 78 to 5. 04 g/s (30 to 40 lb/hr). The experimental results are also compared with the data of ground rice hulls. The advantages and disadvantages are listed and discussed. The approach of handling the whole rice hulls in the fluidized bed gasifier and the key factors to operate the process are introduced. The presented data provided the experience necessary for operating a small scale fluidized bed gasifier as well as any desired scale-up gasification system.
