Processing, Characterization and Dielectric Properties of Hydrothermal BaTiO₃ Films on Stainless Steel
Abstract
BaTiO3 films were grown on stainless steel substrates using Ti precursor and Ba(OH)2 solutions at 90°C under hydrothermal conditions. The effects of Ba(OH)2 concentration and reaction time on the film formation were studied. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) reveal that the film is composed of 10-20nm uniform grains. X-ray Photoelectron (XPS) and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) were used to characterize the films before and after the heat treatment. Diffusion of Fe ions through the BaTiO3 film was observed. Electrical properties such as dielectric constant, dielectric loss and leakage current were measured and correlated with microstructural development of the films and processing parameters.
