Preliminary Results of the Detection and Identification of Glass Microsphere Taggants
Abstract
As part of a 3-year technical project funded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the University of Missouri-Rolla is currently researching the concept of using glass microspheres in explosives as taggants. Testing is ongoing not only regarding detect ability issues but also to determine compatibility with a broad suite of explosives. Preliminary results indicate that large numbers of the glass microsphere taggants typically survive explosive tests and are readily found afterwards.
