Silicon Carbide Ceramics for Aerospace Applications- Processing, Microstructure, and Property Assessments
Abstract
Silicon Carbide has a host of desirable properties making it suitable for many demanding applications in aerospace and defense. A number of advances have been made over the past decade or so in the area of SiC ceramic processing encompassing a significant range in processing approaches. The microstructures resulting from these various processes affect the properties achieved, and hence, the applicability for certain applications. In this paper, recent advances in SiC processing technology and microstructural development will be covered.
