The Future of Glass Strength-An Industry-Changing Symposium
Abstract
An innovative symposium was held at the PACRIM8 meeting in Vancouver, B.C., Canada on June 4, 2009, focusing on issues that needed to be addressed to utilize the intrinsic strength of glass in glass products. the main objective of the symposium was to encourage experts working in the field of glass strength to attend the event and make efforts to address different issues. They needed to identify and prioritize research areas to reduce the gap existing between the usable and intrinsic strength of glass. the event consisted consisted of eight invited talks featuring experts from the industry and academic institutions. the concluding program organized at the event focused on ensuring that the experts agreed on the most essential areas of glass strength research. the experts also needed to inform about the impact of higher-strength glass on the existing needs of their industries.
