Transient Phenomena of Fluid Flow and Inclusion Motion in Continuous Casting Strands
Abstract
There are many complicate phenomena associated with transient stages during the continuous casting process, especially inside the casting mold cavity. the deep understanding and excellent controlling are helpful to ensure the steel quality and lower the product cost. the current paper presents the transient phenomena study in slab continuous casting mold. Numerical simulation was employed to investigate transient stages, including casting speed changing stage (increasing or decreasing), temperature fluctuation, and steel grades changing process. Several factors, such as flow pattern, inclusion motion, temperature variation, and top surface profile, were discussed in order to evaluate the operation process and enhance product quality.
