Friction Stir Processing for Superplasticity
Abstract
Discusses the use of friction stir processing for enhanced superplasticity in commercial aluminum alloys. Reason why superplastic forming is limited to sheet metal forming in aerospace components; Two microstructural features important for superplasticity in commercial aluminum alloys; Three aspects of superplastic flow; Concept of selective superplasticity, thick-sheet or plate forming and superplastic forging.
