Dielectric Properties of Suspensions Containing BaTiO₃ Particles
Alternative Title
Dielectric properties of suspensions containing BaTiO3 particles
Abstract
The size effect of dielectric materials, grain size in sintered ceramics and particle size in powders, plays an important role in influencing their dielectric properties. The grain size effect differs from the particle size effect mainly because of the boundary conditions within a ceramic. The grains in a ceramic are three dimensionally bound by surrounding grains while a particle in a ceramic is free and not subjected to such microstructural effects. The dielectric constant of barium titanate powder compacts as well as slurries were measured using powders of various particle sizes. The calculation of dielectric constant of particles using finite element models were investigated with a critical discussion on the reliability between measured and calculated data.
