The Behavior of Slags in Rising Bubbles in Liquid Metals, using the "Open Top Bubble" Technique
Abstract
The behavior of liquid slags in rising bubbles, as is often encountered in metallurgical processes, was investigated using the “Open Top Bubble" (OTB) technique in lead and lead alloys. The reactions of the slags with the lead and/or added impurities (Sb or Sn) were observed visually, and followed by monitoring the oxygen potentials in the liquid metal and in the gas atmosphere. The spreading behavior of the slags was characterized by a sequence of photographs taken during the experiments.
