Comparative development and osteogenesis of cranial and post-cranial elements in pelobatid tadpoles (anura: pelobatidae)
Abstract
"To understand the evolution and development among pelobatid frogs, I examined 227 specimens of Spea multiplicata, Scaphiopus couchii, Pelobates syricaus, and Pelodytes ibericus for chondrocranial morphology. Descriptions are augmented with the use of eleven chondrocranial measurements to test the scaling properties within each species. The results indicate that chondrocranial morphology and growth are quite distinct among each taxon examined"--Abstract, page iv.
