Abstract
"A Diesel. engine is an internal. combustion engine in which the fuel. is ignited by the heat of compression. Thus, the Diesel. engines are known as compression-ignition (C.I.) engines. The engine received its name: from its inventor, Dr. Rudolf Diesel., who in 1893 published a book under the title, '' Theory and Construction 0£ Rational. Diesel Engine". The first successf'u1 Diesel. engines, using liquid: fuel., which was injected into the cylinder by a blast of high-pressure air, were manufactured by the M.A.N. Company of Germany in 1895"-- Introduction, p. 1
