Abstract
The effect of addition of Ti02 as a nucleating agent was studied with a bottle glass composition of 74 weight percent Si02, l percent Al2O3, 5.4 percent Cao, 3.7 percent MgO, 15. 3 percent Na2O, and 0.6 percent K2O as a base or original composition. The addition of titanium dioxide ii varied from 3 to 20 weight percent. The composition of this bottle glass was changed by increasing the following ingredients and keeping the other ingredients in the same ratios:
1. Increased 5 weight percent of Al2O3, Cao, Cao: MgO, and (Al2O3, Dolomite) one after another.
2. Increased 10 weight percent of above oxides one after another.
3. Increased 15 weight percent of above oxides one after another.
These glasses were heated in various ways; the glass with 10 percent Al2O3 and 20 percent addition of Tio2 showed promise and special heat treatment was given to this glass. 0 Treated at 850 C, this glass showed the possible existence of Sphene or Calcium Titanium Silicate (CaTiSi05).
The glasses with 10 and 15 percent of Al2O3 were treated with zr02 a s a nucleating agent. The preliminary results did not show any kind of crystallization"-- Abstract, p. ii
