Removal and modeling of antibiotics in distilled and surface water during chlorination and monochloramination
Alternative Title
Oxidation of sulfonamides and macrolides with free chlorine and monochloramine
Keywords and Phrases
Monochloramine
Abstract
"Oxidation of seventeen antibiotics with free chlorine and monochloramine was studied in laboratory and surface water to determine the oxidation kinetics and efficiencies of removal in a typical drinking water disinfection atmosphere. Antibiotic degradation was ascertained by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry preceded by solid phase extraction...A kinetic model was developed and validated for sulfonamides that incorporated the effects of oxidant and antibiotic speciation on reaction kinetics"--Abstract, page iv.
