Manufacturing and characterization of transparent thermoplastic composites

Abstract

"Polycarbonate (PC) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) are thermoplastic materials with very good impact resistance properties and excellent optical clarity. Monolithic PMMA is nevertheless brittle, and PC is used as a substitute in applications where impact resistance is very critical. However, PC is expensive when compared to PMMA. A material system, with multi-layered configuration that has better impact resistant properties was developed and the effect of reinforcing glass fiber in transparent polyurethane was studied"--Abstract, page iii.
