Abstract

"This paper has been developed as a result of the concern over prevailing solid waste practices in the Ozark Foothills Region of Missouri. An attempt has been made to assess the present solid waste collection and disposal practices found in the Ozark Foothills Region. The analysis of the existing solid waste practices indicates that to accomplish the collection and disposal of solid waste in an efficient and sanitary manner with an acceptable level of public expenditure requires the establishment of solid waste management systems based upon cooperative programs of intermunicipal and intercounty action.

Seven alternative management systems for solid waste collection and disposal are presented in this study. Three of these seven alternative management systems have been recommended as the means toward s solving the Ozark Foothills Region's problem of solid waste collection and disposal. The three recommended solid waste management systems provide solid waste collection and disposal for every citizen, business, major industry, and agency in the Ozark Foothills Region"-- Abstract, p. ii
