The purpose of this study was (1) to calculate the probability of error as a function of receiver input signal-to-noise ratio for a typical communication system employing cross-correlation detection; (2) to design and construct an experimental model of such a communication system for the purposes of demonstrating the operation of the system and verifying the theoretical calculations"--Introduction, page 1.
